A day in Wagga.
I dug out this box of slides, all taken on the same day in Wagga, some time in the 1986. Thanks to the people on ausloco who responded to my request regarding which year these slides were taken.
I had accompanied my father on a business trip - he was installing cash registers at the KFC near the station - so I borrowed his camera, begged some money for film, then spent the rest of the day at the station.
I seem to recall that the XPT was a fairly new invention at that time, so I was mightily impressed when one arrived from the Melbourne direction around lunch time. Not so impressed were the passengers, as the rear locomotive unit (XP2013) had failed and was making a nasty clunking sound. After much fiddling around, uncoupling the loco and getting the XP's front coupler sorted out (there seemed to be some drama getting this sorted out, from memory), the local shunter X213 hauled the disgraced XP away. The lead locomotive XP2011 carried on towards Sydney solo.
While all this was happening, I snapped away at whatever else was moving in and through the station area.
