2004-02-10 Oaklands Goods

9392 Up Oaklands Grain 10 February 2004
After receiving news that this train would run on the 10th of February, I set off from Wodonga to intercept it near Rennie somewhere. Taking a right turn just after Warragoon, I saw X44 and S300 approaching from the Oaklands direction. A quick U-turn was made, but roadworks (!) near the Warragoon crossing held me up until after the train was through!

I got a quick shot a few km north of Sloane, and another at Sloane with the silos. From there I went down to the Mulwala weir to catch the train crossing the Murray. At Yarrawonga, lengthy shunting was carried out to set out a few faulty wagons. At about 17:40 the train set off for Melbourne under a cloud of black smoke. Thanks to Sean Jenkinson for the heads-up and timing info for this train.

2004-01-00 Tocumwal and Echuca

Tocumwal and Echuca January 2004
While on holiday at Tocumwal I took a few snaps of trains at the station area. I was also in Echuca early one morning - no trains but a nice morning sky...

Tocumwal Picnic Train 24th May 2003
We took a rather foggy drive over to Finley to visit my sister-in-law, and by some strange coincidence there was a special train to Tocumwal, just 20km down the road! I drove with my 2-year-old son to one of the floodway bridges between Tocumwal and Mywee, and waited for a while. Just near the bridge we had an encounter with a large black snake! I though they should all be tucked up in bed for winter?
Eventually the train showed up about 30' late with T357 leading B74, but of course the sun ducked its head behind a cloud at the crucial moment!
We returned to Tocumwal for the departure, which was right on time. After a nice shot of the train crossing the Murray, we dashed to Strathmerton to just catch the train coming through the Cobram junction and through the station.

2003-01-22 Deniliquin Goods

Deniliquin Goods 22 Jan 2003
A fine hot afternoon in Tocumwal, relaxing beside the Murray River... What a pleasure... But the far away call of a GM cab unit is irresistible. So a longish drive via Finley and Deniliquin ends to find an empty yard, the Up goods 9084 had already left... Oh well, back down to Echuca.
G514 and X41 had already arrived on 9083 Down Deni Goods, and were shunting around to add more wagons to 9084 to take it to Melbourne. A79 had come off 9084 and was preparing to take 9083 on to Deniliquin. Ah, so I would get to see a round nose heading north.
After a quick McDinner, we returned to the yard to see the containers disappearing in a northerly direction! Yikes! We paralleled A79 across the Murray and into Moama, managing to get ahead a few kilometres along the line. Got two shots before Barnes and the lonely semaphores valiantly guarding the Moulamein/Deniliquin junction. A79 put on her indicator and turned right, heading off into the flat dry land towards Deni.
A few more shots along the way, even one with some water in it (okay it was an irrigation channel). The sun was dipping low in its westward journey as A79 neared Deniliquin. The line curved to the east just before Deni, giving lovely glint effects as A79 brought her cargo into town. Quite a bit of shunting was done to place the various containers at the rice mill and other sidings. By then the sky was black and it was time to return to Tocumwal again.

Junee & Cootamundra - April 2001
Whilst loafing around the countryside near Junee, I happened to notice a nice long CFCLA train awaiting departure from Junee with three CFCLA EL's and 3 Silverton 442's on the point.
We followed the train through to Cootamundra. It certainly made good noise climbing up the Spiral!

Tocumwal - 20 December 1996
A few pics taken around Toc station just before Christmas. This was probably the only time I had seen an N at Toc. The P in the then fairly new red/blue V/Line livery was quite novel too...

Tocumwal November 15th 1996
I don't even remember taking these pics, I think we were staying in Toc for a while on a visit to Australia. I guess I just snapped what I saw at the station that day. Anyway, it's rare to see this livery these days!
